About the event

We meet at a different location in Primrose Hill to our Perseids meeting, namely the Viewpoint Mound. As we need a high point with a clear view of the Eastern horizon when the Moon rises at 19:30 BST The Earth's shadow has already begun to pass over the disc of the Full Moon at Moon rises. The maximum eclipse occurs minutes later. The Moon will move move out of the Earth's shadow until 21:55. However as the gates to park are locked at 22:00 on a Sunday our meeting will end before, at 21:40 sharp.

During a total lunar eclipse, the Earth is directly between the Sun and the Moon and the latter usually turns a rusty red as it is illuminated by light that has passed through the Earth's atmosphere and has been refracted (bent) back towards the Moon.

No need to bring your telescope or binoculars, if you…
